A tour of the monasteries in Ladakh can be a deeply enriching and spiritual experience. Ladakh, a region in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, is renowned for its monasteries, also known as gompas.

This trip takes you through the major highlights of Ladakh and covers Leh / Nubra Valley / Pangong Lake and other highlights of the route.

In this trip you’ll be hitting altitudes of over 5,000 meters five at times and crossing over some of the  highest passes in the world! The route covers all of the highlights of the ancient Buddhist kingdom of Ladakh, as well as the three most beautiful Himalayan lakes in the border region to Tibet – all at altitudes of more than 4,500 meters

Itinerary


Day 1 | Arrival in Leh
Arrive in Leh, the capital of Ladakh.
Rest and acclimatize to the high altitude to prevent altitude sickness.
Overnight in Leh

Day 2 | Leh Local Sightseeing
Day for Leh local sightseeing, today you will explore
Shanti Stupa: Enjoy the panoramic view of Leh city and its surroundings.
Explore Leh Palace: Learn about the historical and cultural significance of the palace.
Spituk Monastery : a small monastery located on the outskirts of the city.
Visit Leh Market: Experience the local culture and shop for souvenirs.
Overnight at Leh

Day 3 |  Hemis Monastery and Stok Palace
Visit Hemis Monastery: Witness the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. Observe the annual Hemis festival if the timing aligns.
Explore Stok Palace: Learn about the royal family of Ladakh and visit the museum.
Overnight at Leh

Day 4 | Alchi and Likir Monasteries ( 106 Kms )
Travel to Alchi Monastery: Admire the ancient wall paintings and architecture.
Visit Likir Monastery: Explore the monastery and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Overnight at Ule.

Day 5 | Ule – Lamayuru – Leh ( 165 Kms )
Visit Lamayuru Monastery: Known as the “Moonland,” enjoy the stunning landscape and the monastery. Explore Moonland: Witness the unique lunar-like landscape nearby. Later drive back to Leh.
Overnight at Leh.

Day 6 | Leh – Nubra Valley ( 126 Kms )
A long drive over the locally claimed ‘world’s highest pass’ takes you to the Nubra Valley. The drive takes several hours but includes several long stops for photos. The road take you up to Khardung La Pass ( 5359 M ) and is one of the highest roads you’ll find and a breathtaking experience in every way. Drive to Nubra Valley: Enjoy the scenic journey to the high-altitude desert.

Day 7 |  Nubra Valley
In Nubra Valley, visit Diskit Monastery: Admire the gigantic statue of Maitreya Buddha and the panoramic views. Also visit the sand dunes at Hunder where you can take a camel ride.
Overnight in Nubra Valley.

Day 8  | Nubra to Pangaong ( 171 Kms )
Drive to Pangong Lake which is a salt water lake at  4225 Meters in the higher reached of Ladakh, the lake changes color every few hours and the best time for photography is in Morning & evening when the lake is at its best . The road to Pangong is full of contrasts crossing through narrow valleys, river sides and wide open plains. Reach Pangong in mid day and check into your camps / guest house. Explore the natural beauty of the lake.

Day 9 | Pangong to Leh ( 155 Kms )
Drive to Leh via Changla Pass (17688 Feet ). Also Visit Thiksey monastery en-route.  Arrive in Leh mid day.  Evening free for leisure.
Overnight at Leh Hotel.

Day 10 : Departure from Leh
Depart from Leh with wonderful memories of the monastery tour in Ladakh.

Please note that this itinerary can be adjusted based on individual preferences, available time, and the season of travel. Also, altitude acclimatization is crucial due to the high elevation in Ladakh.

STARTS AND END POINT OF TOUR
The easiest way to travel to Ladakh is by air. The nearest airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) located in Leh.

This airport is connected with many international airports in India like Delhi. It also receives flights from Srinagar, Jammu, Chandigarh, and other common destinations in India.

Kindly consult your doctor before visiting the High altitude zone.

FAQs

Will we have the same driver for the duration of the Tour
We always try to keep the same driver from our arrival at the airport to your departure, as this is more convenient for our guests.
However we may have to change the vehicle driver due to unforeseen circumstances, in such case you will be informed and a equally good vehicle / driver will be arranged.
Can you book a hotel for us for extra day's?
Yes, sure we can book hotel stay for you for your pre and post tour days.
What is your cancellation policy?
In case of cancellation of tour/travel services due to any avoidable/ unavoidable reasons we must be informed in written. Cancellation charges would be effective from the date we receive mail in written and cancellation charges would be as follows:
• Once the booking is confirmed – 25% of the tour/service cost.
• 15 days prior to arrival – 50% of the tour/service cost.
• 07 days prior to arrival – 75% of the tour/service cost.
• Less than 72 hours or no show – NO REFUNDS
Can you send us the final itinerary before we book the tour?
Yes we always send the tour program before you book.
Note - as we travel in the Himalayas at time if necessary we have to make changes in the itinerary due to snow fall / road closure or any other natural calamity that is beyond our control.
